I spoke with Mary Helen Cervantes, Director, Communications and Legislation, of NJ Department of Children and Families tonight (10/23). At the end of our conversation, I was still left with no definitive information as to when the Commissioner will make a decision.
I reiterated all my reasons as to why I felt that the house next door to me is wrong for this purpose. I stated that the State was given enough information from all of our residents to make, in my opinion, a clear and easy decision for us and the children. I stated that this does not smell good and I am suspect at this election time.
I also understood that Cherry Hill NJMentor Group Homes issue was not the only one on the State’s plate, but I have been sleepless and fearful since June/July and I need closure and peace.
Ms. Cervantes stated that her telephone and email (609-292-0422
mary.cervantes@dcf.state.nj.us) are always open to all of our concerns and that all of the aspects of what they need to look at to move forward and/or change what is best for the community and the kids are ultimately in the forefront.
Although I expressed my disappointment that the Commissioner has not replied to any emails to even confirm receipt, she assured me that her call to me is doing just that.

Do we still open ourselves up to the media at this time or wait a "little longer"?
